Keepsake book · with the Family plan

Make a keepsake book.

Turn the family’s stories, transcripts and photographs into a book: a PDF to keep, print at home or send to relatives.

What it costs. The tree stays free, and so do written stories, up to 100 photos and the timeline. Voice, video and the keepsake book come with the Family plan, R199 a year for the whole family. Printed copies will follow, at the printer’s price.

The Family plan gives each family 1 GB. That’s about 1,000 photos, or about 20 hours of voice recordings, or about an hour of video. If your family needs more, write to us.

  1. 1 Choose the look

    Look
    Photo frame
    Photo labels
    Lettering

Your photos themselves don’t change. The look only changes how the book is laid out and printed.

    Thangam, 1960s

    Sweets at midnight

The night before the festival nobody went to bed. The sweets were made after the little ones were asleep, so there was a rule that we were asleep. We were not asleep. We lay on the mat and listened to the spoon going round and round in the pot.

What goes in

A book that reads in the order a family would tell it.

A cover page

The family’s name, how many stories and photos are in it, and the date it was made.

The stories

Each story in full, with the transcript as the family corrected it.

The photographs

Every photo with who, where and when, as tagged.

Your look

Choose the frames, the photo labels, the lettering and an old-world sepia tone. Change it whenever you like before you print.

Privacy · for every story

Private by default. Yours to take back.

Stories are some of the most personal things a family keeps. The rules below apply to every recording, photo and written story, and none of them can be switched off for you.

Only your family

A story can be seen only by the people in this family, once they sign in. Nothing is public.

The speaker says yes first

Every recording notes that the speaker agreed. The speaker can ask for a part to be cut, or the whole story taken down, at any time.

Everyone can add

Everyone in the family can add stories and photos. The person who started the family can undo or delete anything.

Delete, for real

When you delete a story or a photo, the file is removed from the server. It isn’t just hidden.
